KARAMJIT SINGH , J. (Oral) The case has been taken up through Video Conferencing due to prevailing situation of COVID-19.

Prem Lata and Kuldip Singh, the petitioners before this Court, claim themselves to be major. It has been pleaded that they have married against the wishes of respondent Nos.4 to 7 and seek protection to their life and liberty. They apprehend danger from respondent Nos.4 to 7. Copy of the marriage certificate is Annexure P-3.

The petitioners have already moved an application/representation dated 21.10.2020, Annexure P-4, to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, for providing protection to their life and liberty. Notice of motion.

At this stage, Mr. Pawan Sharda, Sr. DAG, Punjab, has accepted notice on behalf of the respondent Nos.1 to 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners as well as State have submitted that necessary direction be given to the concerned police officer to look into the matter and decide the application/representation (Annexure P-4), moved by VIRENDRA SINGH ADHIKARI 2020.10.24 05:59 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

Without entering upon an exercise to evaluate the evidentiary value of the documents placed on the file, this Court disposes of the present petition with directions to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, to decide the representation of the petitioners, Annexure P-4, and grant them protection, if any threat to their life and liberty is perceived. It is made clear that this order shall not be taken to protect the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any, committed by them.
