KARAMJIT SINGH , J. (Oral) The case has been taken up through Video Conferencing due to prevailing situation of COVID-19.

This petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India seeking protection from private respondents No.4 to 6 on the ground that the petitioners got married against the wishes of their parents. They are apprehending threat at the hands of respondents No.4 to 6. Copy of the marriage certificate is Annexure P-3.

The petitioners have already moved an application/representation dated 20.10.2020 (Annexure P-4) to Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, for providing protection to their life and liberty. Notice of motion.

At this stage, Mr. Pawan Sharda, Sr. DAG, Punjab, has accepted notice on behalf of the respondent Nos.1 to 3. Learned counsel for the petitioners as well as State have submitted that necessary direction be given to the concerned police officer to look into the matter and decide the application/representation (Annexure P-4), moved by VIRENDRA SINGH ADHIKARI 2020.10.24 05:59 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

In the light of the aforesaid, this criminal writ petition is hereby disposed of with direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala, to look into the matter and decide application/representation dated 20.10.2020 (Annexure P-4), moved by the petitioners, in accordance with law, by passing a speaking order and in case of threat perception, to provide proper security to the petitioners to protect their life and liberty from respondents No.4 to 6.

Nothing expressed herein-above would be construed to be an expression of any opinion with regard to the validity of marriage of the petitioners.
