*** Present: Mr.Karan Nehra, Advocate, for the petitioner. -.- Surya Kant, J . (Oral) The petitioner is an aspirant for admission to M.Phil Course in Sociology in Panjab University, Chandigarh. There were 15 seats advertised in the Prospectus but after written test and interview, the Department of Sociology has short-listed only 5 candidates for admission while 2 others are kept in waiting list. The petitioner, who claims herself to be at Sr.No.7 in overall merit list, urges that no reason has been assigned for not filling up all the 15 seats when candidates are available. We have heard learned counsel for the petitioner. Though it is not expedient for this Court to go into the academic affairs of the University and determine as to how many candidates should be admitted in M.

Phil Course, nevertheless, it would be expedient if the University-authorities communicate the reasons for restricting admission qua 5 seats only. We find that the petitioner has already represented the Vice Chancellor, the Dean University Instructions and Head of Sociology Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh in this regard on 21.09.2017. The writ petition is thus disposed of without expressing any Mohinder Kumar Kamboj 2017.09.

CWP No.22458 of 2017 [2] views on merits of the petitioner's claim, with a direction to the Dean of University Instructions as well as Vice Chancellor of the respondentUniversity to examine the petitioner's claim and take a holistic view whether all the 15 seats or a substantial part thereof are to be filled-in or that the Department shall restrict the admission qua 5 candidates only. Let the reasoned communication be sent to the petitioner within one week from the date of receiving a certified copy of this order. Ordered accordingly.
