The present petition has been filed by the petitioners under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking issuance of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to permit the petitioners to submit their options for the vacant stations in District Tarn Taran/Kapurthala and thereafter re-allot them the said vacant stations in District Tarn Taran/Kapurthala, in accordance with their merit, which had not been put under the option list and thereafter, the candidates are being adjusted in pick and choose manner.

Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that for redressal of their grievances, the petitioners have also served a legal notice dated 10.04.2026 (Annexure P-4) upon the respondents which is still pending consideration. She further submits that at this stage, the petitioners would be satisfied, if appropriate directions are issued to the respondents to consider and decide the said legal notice, by passing a speaking order, in a time bound manner.

On receipt of advance copy, Mr. Swapan Shorey, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the respondents. He has no objection to the innocuous prayer made by learned counsel for the petitioners.

I have heard learned counsel for the parties and have gone through the record of the case.

Without going into the merits of the case at this stage, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 to decide the legal notice dated 10.04.2026 (Annexure P-4) served by the petitioners expeditiously, by passing a speaking order after affording an opportunity of hearing to them, preferably within a period of 06 weeks from the date of receipt of certified copy of this order.
