The petitioner seeks issuance of a writ in the nature of certiorari for quashing of order dated 17.10.2022 (Annexure P-2) passed by respondent No.2 - Senior Superintendent of Police, Police District Khanna, District Ludhiana and order dated 16.5.2023 (Annexure P-3) passed by Inspector General of Police, Ludhiana Range, Ludhiana, whereby while granting promotion to similarly situated persons from the post of Head Constable to Assistant Sub Inspector, the name of the petitioner had been excluded. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner, who is working as ASI, was not promoted to the post of Sub Inspector on account of pendency of a criminal case, which has now been investigated and the allegations have not been found to be true and consequently a cancellation report has been presented in the Court. It has been submitted that although the petitioner submitted a representation dated 16.5.2023 (Annexure P-4) before respondent No.3 - Inspector General of Police, Ludhiana Range, Ludhiana seeking promotion on grounds of parity, but to no avail. 3.

On asking of the Court, Mr. Inderpreet Singh Kang, AAG, Punjab, upon whom an advance copy of petition had already been served, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

Having heard learned counsel for the petitioner but without commenting anything as regards merits of the case or as regards veracity of averments made in the petition, the instant petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.3 - Inspector General of Police, Ludhiana Range, Ludhiana to look into the matter and to dispose of the representation dated 16.5.2023 (Annexure P-4) expeditiously in accordance with law. 6.
