Petitioner was an aspirant for appointment as a Constable in the District Police Cadre of District Ferozepur under the category of Backward Class. The selection process inter alia provided for award of marks towards height. The height of the petitioner was measured as 5'11.75" at the Recruitment Center and therefore, he was awarded 14 marks as per the laid down criteria.

Grievance of the petitioner is that his height is 183 centimeters i.e. more than 6' and therefore was erroneously denied the benefit of an additional mark. To substantiate the plea of his height being more than 6', reliance was placed on a certificate issued by the Medical Officer, Community Health Center, Guru Harsahai at Annexure P-14. This Court, in view of the factual stand of the petitioner, directed re-measurement of height of the petitioner by a Board of three Rajinder Parshad Joshi 2018.02.16 09:41 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

CWP 25124/2017 Doctors to be constituted by the Medical Superintendent, General Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh while issuing notice of motion on 15.11.2017. The height of the petitioner was re-measured by the Medical Board on 22.11.2017 and as per report dated 29.11.2017 placed on record on 14.12.2017, the height of the petitioner was measured at 184 centimeters. It was thus contended that in view of the height being more than 6' petitioner was entitled to award of 15 marks and thereby would now fall within the zone of appointment under the Backward Class category advertised for the District Police Cadre of Ferozepur.

Upon notice, a reply dated 12.2.2018 has been filed on behalf of the respondents. It is admitted that as per revised merit of the petitioner, he has been selected for appointment in the Backward Class category for the District Police cadre.

At the time of hearing, learned State counsel on instructions from Constable Gurharpreet Singh No.1357/SAS Nagar, Recruitment Cell, CPO, DGP Punjab, states that on successful completion of necessary formalities of police verification etc., appointment letter based on his merit would be issued in due course of time.

In view of the above, nothing survives for adjudication in the present petition.
