(ORAL) The present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of Mandamus for directing respondents No.1 and 2 to renew the passport of the petitioner, which is stated to have been expired on 28.08.2024. 2.

Learned counsel appearing for respondents No.1 and 2 has handed over a copy of letter dated 24.02.2025, which is taken on record, subject to all just exceptions. Copy thereof has been supplied to learned counsel for the petitioner in Court today itself. 2.1 Learned counsel for respondents No.1 and 2 submits that vide above referred letter dated 24.02.2025, certain clarifications were sought from the petitioner as regards the case FIR No.20, dated 15.04.2024, under Sections 406, 420, 370 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 10 and 24 of the Immigration Act, 1983, registered at Police Station NRI Kapurthala. 2.2 It is further submitted by learned counsel appearing for respondents No.1 and 2 that till date, the petitioner has not responded to said letter dated 24.02.2025 and on that account the application seeking renewal of passport, submitted by the petitioner is pending before the concerned passport authorities and in case, the petitioner appear before the Regional Passport Officer, Jalandhar on any working day and answer all the clarifications/information and provide the documents as may be sought from him, then his application would be considered and final decision thereon shall be taken by the concerned authorities.

In view of the aforesaid stand taken by learned counsel appearing for respondents No.1 and 2, the present petition stands disposed of accordingly.

It goes without saying that in case, the petitioner responds to letter dated 24.02.2025 and answer all the clarifications/information and provide the documents as may be sought from him, then the concerned passport authorities shall consider the same and take a final decision on the passport application, submitted by the petitioner, within a period of eight weeks from the date when such information/clarification/documents are supplied by the petitioner.
