The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing the official respondents to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner and his family members at the hands of respondent No.7. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner had entered into business dealings with respondent No. 7 relating to labour and transportation work, due to which, certain monetary transactions took place between them. It is further contended that despite substantial payments made through banking channels, respondent No. 7 continued to threaten, harass and coerce the petitioner and his family members with regard to certain documents concerning property owned by the petitioner's wife.

Mr. Anup Singh, AAG, Punjab, accepted notice on behalf of the respondent-State and apprised the Court that there is a civil dispute between the parties, as earlier a complaint was received from the petitioner on which a DDR was registered by the authorities concerned. Learned counsel further submitted that as per the instructions from the quarters concerned, there is no threat perception to the life and liberty of the petitioner as well as to his family.

Keeping in view the statement made on behalf of learned counsel for the State, no further orders are required to be passed by this Court.
