JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) Petitioners who are major are stated to be residing in live-in-relationship as petitioner No.1 was being compelled by her family members to reside with respondent No.4 (husband of her deceased sister who has died after giving birth to a child). It is further averred that respondent No.4 also turned her out of the house many times stating that she is not his legally wedded wife. It is further averred that family of petitioner No.1 is opposed to the relationship and therefore, the petitioners are apprehending threat to their life and liberty at the hands of private respondents Nos.4 and 5.

CRWP-9985-2021 (O&M) scope of the present petition pertains only to the protection of lives of the petitioners. He has submitted that the petitioners have submitted a representation (Annexure P-3) dated 30.9.2021, to the Commissioner Police, Ludhiana, but no action has been taken on the same. Heard. Record perused.

Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1, 2 and 3 only. Mr.Karanbir Singh, AAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents. Copy stands supplied. This Court does not wish to make any observations with regard to the validity of inter se relationship between the petitioners. However, since both the petitioners are stated to be residing in live-in relationship, the scope of present petition pertains only to protection of their lives.

This petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, that representation (Annexure P-3) filed seeking protection of life and liberty, be looked into and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for ensuring the protection of life of the petitioners.
