This writ petition, under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India, has been filed for issuance of writ, order or direction, especially, in the nature of mandamus, directing the respondents to count the services rendered by the petitioners, on the post of Special Police Officers, as qualifying service, for the purpose of pensionary/retiral benefits. The petitioners claim that the aforesaid issue has been decided by a Division Bench of the Court in Harbans Lal v. State of Punjab and Others (Civil Writ Petition No. 2371 of 2010, decided on 31.08.2010). Learned counsel, for the petitioners, also relied upon various orders passed by the Co-ordinate Benches, disposing of similar writ petitions, on the very first date of hearing. Notice of motion.

Civil Writ Petition No. 20500 of 2020 on the merits of the case, let the Director General of Police, Punjab, decide the claim put-forth, by the petitioners, within a period of three months from the date of receipt of copy of this order. In case, the petitioners are found entitled to the relief as prayed for, the same shall be released to them within a period of one month, thereafter. In case, the Director General of Police, finds that the petitioners are not entitled to any of the reliefs as prayed for, a speaking order shall be required to be passed.
