(ORAL) Present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India for directing respondent No.2 and all other official respondents to forthwith conduct the forthcoming Municipal General Elections, 2026 in the State of Punjab exclusively through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) equipped with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system in strict compliance with the binding law declared by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the constitutional mandate of free, fair, transparent and credible elections, and to ensure the purity of the electoral process by safeguarding against malpractice, booth capturing, electoral fraud and arbitrary deviation from established democratic procedures. Learned counsel for respondent No.3 submits that the EVMs have already been provided to the State Election Commission, Punjab on SMRITI 2026.06.02 17:59 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this order/judgment

CWP-18800-2026 -222.05.2026 and the final decision was to be taken by the State Election Commission, Punjab.

Learned counsel for respondents No. 1 and 2 submits that the decision has already been taken and the present election shall be conducted through EVMs. He has also vehemently contended that the petitions have been filed only to influence the voters that it is because of their petitions, the State Election Commission has taken the decision for conducting the election through EVMs. However, the said decision has already been taken. In view of the submissions made, the prayer made in the present petition has already been resolved. The petition is disposed of as infructuous.
