JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) Petitioner No.1 (girl) is of the age of 19 years whereas petitioner No.2 (boy) is aged 20 years. It is averred that the family members of petitioner No.1 (girl) though she is major and above the age of 18 years, are opposed to this relationship as they want to marry petitioner No.1 with a boy of their choice. It is further averred that petitioner No.1 is a Majhbi Sikh whereas petitioner No.2 is Jat Sikh. It is further averred that the

petitioners want to solemnise marriage but due to aforesaid reason at present they are residing in live-in-relationship as petitioner No.2 has not attained the marriageable age as per law. It is further averred that family of petitioner No.1 is opposed to the relationship and therefore, the petitioners are apprehending threat to their life and liberty at the hands of private respondents Nos.4 to 6.

Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that scope of the present petition pertains only to the protection of lives of the petitioners. He has submitted that the petitioners have submitted a representation (Annexure P-5) dated 18.10.2021, to the Senior Superintendent Police, Gurdaspur, but no action has been taken on the same.

Heard. Record perused.

Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1, 2 and 3 only. Mr.Karanbir Singh, AAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents. Copy stands supplied. This Court does not wish to make any observations with regard to the validity of inter se relationship between the petitioners. However, since both the petitioners are stated to be residing in live-in relationship, the scope of present petition pertains only to protection of their lives.

This petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - the Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurdaspur, that representation (Annexure P-5) filed seeking protection of life and liberty, be looked into

and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for ensuring the protection of life of the petitioners.
