The petitioners have filed present petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a direction to respondents No.1 to 3 to protect the life and liberty of petitioners from the hands of private respondent No.4 and further to restrain the private respondent from interfering in their peaceful life.

It is submitted that both the petitioners are major. As per copy of Aadhaar Card of petitioner No.1 (Annexure P-1), her date of birth is 02.05.1987. On the other hand, as per copy of Aadhaar Card of petitioner No.2, his date of birth is 06.09.1993. They are in live-in relationship. Petitioners are receiving threats from respondent No.4, who is the husband of petitioner No.1, thus, have filed present petition. Petitioners have also moved representation dated 26.05.2026 (Annexure P-2) to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, Punjab seeking protection of life and liberty.

On advance notice, Mr. Amarpreet Singh Bains, Assistant A.G., Punjab accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3-State. 5.

Learned counsel for the petitioners is directed to supply a complete copy of paper-book to learned State counsel during the course of the day.

Considering the nature of litigation, no purpose would be served by serving notice to private respondent No.4. 7.

I have considered the facts narrated in the petition, according to which both the petitioners are major and are in live-in relationship against the wishes of family members/relatives of petitioner No.1, as a result they are receiving threats from respondent No.4. It is the duty of police to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners. Therefore, respondent No.2 is directed to consider representation of petitioners dated 26.05.2026 (Annexure P-2) and protect the life and liberty of petitioners from the hands of respondent No.4, considering threat perception, with further direction to maintain their privacy and dignity.

Aforesaid protection order will have no bearing on legality of their relationship and it will not protect them in case there is any violation of law or pending legal proceedings.

Petition is accordingly disposed of.
