IN THE HIGH COURT OF PUNJAB AND HARYANA

AT CHANDIGARH CRM-M-33655-2026 Date of Decision : June 25, 2026 AMIT RANA -PETITIONER V/S STATE OF U.T. CHANDIGARH -RESPONDENT

CORAM:

HON'BLE MR. JUSTICE KULDEEP TIWARI

Present:

Mr. Ajay Kumar Rana, Advocate for the petitioner.

Mr. Manish Bansal, Public Prosecutor, with Mr. Vaibhav Mittal, Addl. Public Prosecutor, for the respondent- U.T. Chandigarh.

Mr. Aryan Sharma, Advocate for the complainant.

*** KULDEEP TIWARI, J. (ORAL) 1.

Through the instant petition, as instituted under Section 482 of the B.N.S.S., 2023, the petitioner seeks the concession of anticipatory bail in FIR No.45 dated 05.03.2026, registered under Sections 115(2) and 109 of the B.N.S., 2023, at P.S. Sector 31, District Chandigarh. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner, while referring to the photograph (Annexure P-2) depicting the injury allegedly sustained by the petitioner, submits that the petitioner inflicted injuries upon the complainant's brother in self-defence.

3.

This Court has considered the submission made by learned counsel for the petitioner but finds no merit therein. The reason for drawing this inference is that the record reveals that the complainant's brother has sustained as many as six stab injuries, attracting the provisions of Section DEVINDER YADAV 2026.06.26 12:00 I attest to the accuracy and authenticity of this order/judgment

CRM-M-33655-2026 109 of the B.N.S., 2023. In contrast, the injury allegedly suffered by the petitioner is superficial and simple in nature. Consequently, at this stage, without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, this Court is of the considered view that the petitioner has failed to make out a case for the grant of anticipatory bail, particularly in view of the serious allegations regarding the infliction of multiple stab injuries upon the complainant's brother.

4.

In summa, the instant petition is dismissed.
