JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. (ORAL ) Petitioner No.1 (girl) is of the age of 18 years whereas petitioner No.2 (boy) is aged 19 years. It is averred that the family members of petitioner No.1 want petitioner No.1 to marry against her wish with the boy of their choice forcibly whereas petitioners like each other and want to marry each other. It is further averred that due to aforesaid reason at present the petitioners are residing in live-in-relationship as petitioner No.2 has not attained the marriageable age as per law. It is also averred that family of petitioner No.1 is opposed to the relationship and therefore, the petitioners are apprehending threat to their lives and liberty at the hands of private RAJ KUMAR ARORA 2021.11.03 16:57 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that scope of the present petition pertains only to the protection of lives of the petitioners. He has submitted that the petitioners have submitted a representation (Annexure P-3) dated 30.10.2021, to the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, but no action has been taken on the same. Heard. Record perused.

Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1, 2 and 3 only. Mr.Randhir Singh Thind, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents. Copy stands supplied. This Court does not wish to make any observations with regard to the validity of inter se relationship between the petitioners. However, since both the petitioners are stated to be residing in live-in relationship, the scope of present petition pertains only to protection of their lives.

This petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 - the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, that representation (Annexure P-3) filed seeking protection of life and liberty, be looked into and contents thereof be duly verified and if necessary, requisite steps be taken, strictly in accordance with law for ensuring the protection of life of the petitioners.
