(ORAL) The only prayer made in the petition is to issue a direction to the respondent authorities to set up a Transgender Protection Cell in the State of Punjab, as also to formulate a comprehensive policy on measures and procedure for protection of transgender persons in the State of Punjab. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner has even moved the respondent authorities in this regard, vide various representations as well as e-mails (Annexures P-7 to P-12), but to no avail. To this, learned Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, submits that the representations of the petitioner (ibid), shall be considered and decided, expeditiously, in accordance with law.

In view of the aforesaid statement made by learned State counsel, the petition is disposed of. However, it is made clear that this Court has not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case and, therefore, the authorities would be at liberty to examine the matter taking all the facts into consideration, and thereafter, accept or reject the same, in accordance with law.
