The present writ petition has been instituted under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondents No.2 and 3 to ensure adequate protection of the lives and personal liberty of the petitioners, who apprehend a serious threat at the hands of private respondents No.4 and 5, stated to be the family members of petitioner No.1. A further direction is sought restraining the private respondents from harassing, intimidating, or otherwise interfering with the peaceful life and lawful cohabitation of the petitioners. 2.
Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners submits that the petitioners are residing together in a live-in relationship and are being subjected to continuous threats and intimidation by the private respondents. It is further submitted that, owing to the imminent apprehension to their lives and liberty, the petitioners submitted a
-:2:- representation dated 25.06.2026 (Annexure P-3) before respondent No.2Superintendent of Police, Kaithal, seeking appropriate police protection. However, despite the submission of the said representation, no effective action has been taken by the competent authority. Learned counsel submits that the petitioners would be adequately satisfied if respondent No.2 is directed to consider the aforesaid representation expeditiously and to take appropriate steps in accordance with law.

Mr. Ramesh Kumar Ambavta, learned Deputy Advocate General, Haryana, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondents. 5.
Having regard to the nature of the relief sought and without expressing any opinion on the merits of the rival claims or the validity of the alleged live-in relationship, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2-Superintendent of Police, Kaithal, to consider the representation dated 25.06.2026 (Annexure P-3), objectively assess the threat perception to the lives and personal liberty of the petitioners, and, if the circumstances so warrant, take such preventive and protective measures as may be necessary in accordance with law to ensure that the lives and liberty of the petitioners are not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents or any other person.

It is clarified that this order shall not be construed as an expression of opinion on the merits of the dispute inter se the parties, nor shall it confer recognition or validation upon the relationship claimed by the petitioners. The competent authorities shall proceed strictly in accordance with law while acting upon the directions contained herein.
