SUVIR SEHGAL, J. (Oral) The Court has been convened through video conferencing due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a direction to the official respondents No.2 and 3 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioner from the private respondents.

Counsel for the petitioner has submitted that the petitioner is married to respondent No.4 and respondents No.5 and 6 are her in-laws. He has made a reference to para 4 of the petition to submit that the petitioner was treated with physical and mental cruelty by the said respondents on 05.10.2020 and an attempt was made to set her aflame by pouring kerosene on her. CRWP No.10613 of 2020 {2} Hospital Malout. Counsel has drawn the attention of this Court to MLR (Annexure P-1) to submit that the petitioner has received four injuries. He argues that an application/complaint (Annexure P-2) was submitted before the police authorities but no action was taken as respondent No.5, father-inlaw of the petitioner, is a police official. Counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner will be satisfied in case a direction is issued to the official respondent to examine the complaint (Annexure P-2).

Without adverting to the merits of the petitioner's allegations at this stage, the present petition is disposed of with a direction to Senior Superintendent of Police, District Bathinda - respondent No.2 to consider the complaint, Annexure P-2 and thereafter, to take appropriate steps as warranted, in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is any imminent threat to the life and liberty of the petitioner, then it be ensured that no harm is caused to the petitioner.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of Annexure P-2 be sent to the Senior Superintendent of Police, District Bathinda- respondent No.2 to enable him to do the needful expeditiously.
