By this petition, filed under the provisions of Section 439 of the Cr.P.C., the petitioner seeks the concession of regular bail, upon FIR no.472, dated 30.12.2019, having been registered at Police Station Sector-39, Chandigarh, alleging therein the commission of offences punishable under Sections 304-B and 34 of the IPC.

Learned counsel for the petitioner other than arguing on merits of the case, to the effect that the petitioner was not in any manner responsible for the death of his wife who committed suicide, submits that he has been in custody for more than one year now, with the trial not even having commenced as yet and therefore he deserves to be admitted to bail. Mr. Punchhi, learned Pubic Prosecutor, U.T., Chandigarh, while opposing grant of bail to the petitioner considering the deceased was a young lady who committed suicide within seven months of marriage, could not deny the stage of the trial and the period of custody.
