(Oral) The present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India inter alia seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of Mandamus for directing respondents No.4 and 5 (Block Development and Panchayat Officer and Panchayat Secretary, respectively) to ensure that the meetings of the Gram Panchayat, Bathanwala, Block Dinanagar, District Gurdaspur are conducted in a democratic manner as envisaged under Section 24 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (in short '1994 Act'). 1.1 A further prayer has been made that in case of equality of vote, petitioner No.1- Sarpanch of Village Bathanwala, Block Dinanagar, District Gurdaspur be allowed to cast her vote.

Learned State counsel, on instructions from Mr. Harpreet Singh, Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Gurdaspur, submits that the concerned Block Development and Panchayat Officer has already convened a meeting in his office on 09.08.2025 at 11:00 A.M.
