The petitioner seeks issuance of directions to the official respondents to protect her life and liberty as she apprehends threat to the same at the hands of respondents No.5 to 10 i.e. her parental family including her parents. 2.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner a major aged about 21 years and that she wishes to solemnize marriage with one Surjit Singh, who is presently in Dubai, but her parents are not in favour of said matrimonial alliance and wish to forcibly marry her to some other boy of their choice. It is submitted that the private respondents have been threatening to cause harm to the petitioner because of which she was constrained to approach this Court.

At this stage, Mr. Siddharth Attri, AAG, Punjab, upon whom an advance copy of petition had already been served, accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

Mr. Dhawaljeet Dutta, Advocate has put in appearance on behalf of respondents No.5 and 6 and has filed Vakalatnama, which is taken on record. 6.

Respondents No.5 and 6 are present in person alongwith Mr. Dhawaljeet Dutta, Advocate and have also been afforded an opportunity to talk to the petitioner, who is also present in person.

Learned counsel representing respondents No.5 and 6 has assured that the private respondents shall not cause any harm to the petitioner. 8.

Having heard learned counsel for the petitioner as well as learned counsel representing respondents No.5 and 6, but without commenting anything as regards merits of the case or as regards veracity of averments made in the petition, the instant petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2 - Senior Superintendent of Police, District Hoshiarpur to look into the matter and to get the representation dated 19.8.2024 (Annexure P-2) examined to the limited extent of alleged threat perception of the petitioner. In case, it is found that there is any gunine threat to the life and liberty of the petitioner, then necessary steps as may be warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioner in any manner.
