Present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India, inter alia, seeking issuance of a writ in the nature of Mandamus for directing the respondents to reserve the seat for the post of Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat, Chambal Kalan, Block Naushera Pannuan, District Tarn Taran for scheduled caste (Women) or in the alternative, directing respondent No.3 to decide representation dated 01.08.2024 (Annexure P-2) in a time bound manner, as the general elections are likely to be held in September/ October 2024.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that representation dated 01.08.2024 (Annexure P-2) filed by the petitioners before respondent No.3-Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, District Tarn Taran, Punjab is still pending adjudication.

3. On the other hand, on advance service of copy of petition, learned State counsel appears and opposes issuance of notice of motion. He submits that grievance of the petitioner will be looked into by concerned authority/respondent No.3 and it shall take decision either way, on pending representation dated 01.08.2024 (Annexure P-2).

4. Given the nature of order being passed, there is no necessity to seek reply by any of the respondents as no further proceedings and/or pleadings are required.

5. Without commenting on merits of the case, the petition is disposed of with a direction to the concerned authority/ respondent No.3 to consider and decide pending representation dated 01.08.2024 (Annexure P2) of the petitioner and pass an appropriate reasoned order, in accordance with law, preferably within a period of 04 weeks from the date of receipt of copy/ production of this order.
