Fearing for life and liberty at the hands of the private respondents, the petitioners, invoking the fundamental right of life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India, have come up before this Court seeking protection through the State.

The State has filed its response prepared by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub Division Bhawanigarh. As per Para No.3 of the response, all the petitioners have criminal backgrounds and various criminal cases have been registered against them. It has been submitted that Police has been taking action according to law against them. In fact in this reply, paragraph wise allegations have been denied by the concerned State. In Para No.6, details of the cases against petitioner No.2-Biru have been mentioned. As many as 06 cases are pending against him. As per Para No.7, 07 cases are stated to be pending against Ranjit Singh @ Jiti-petitioner No.5. 3.

Since the State is aware that the petitioners apprehending threat to their lives at the instance of the private respondents alongwith police officials, this Court is of the considered opinion that the police official would not take any such action nor they would let private respondents to do that.

Given above, nothing is required to be passed by this Court at this stage. 5.

Accordingly, the petition is dismissed. All pending applications, if any, stand disposed.
