The present writ petition in the form of PIL has been filed raising the alleged public cause that the City in the District of Sangrur presently named as Sunam Udham Singh Wala ought to be changed as Mohammad Singh Azad, Sunam, Sangrur (which is another name for the same freedom fighter). 2.

This Court, after hearing learned counsel for the rival parties is of the firm view that the issue as to whether a particular town or city has to be named in a particular manner or by the name of some other individual lies exclusively within the domain of the State. These are policy matters which ought not be interfered with by the Courts, especially in the limited and supervisory jurisdiction of this Court under Article 226/227 of the Constitution of India.
