The petitioners have approached this Court seeking issuance of a direction to official respondents to protect their lives and liberty as they apprehend threat to the same at the hands of private respondents, being in a live-in relationship against the wishes of their families.

At this stage, Mr. Harbir Sandhu, AAG, Punjab, upon whom an advance copy of petition had already been served accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State.

Mr. Manna Singh, Advocate has put in appearance on behalf of respondent No.4 and has filed Vakalatnama, which is taken on record. Learned counsel

( 2 ) for respondent No.4 has assured that she does not have any objection to marriage of her daughter i.e. petitioner No.1 Manroj Kaur with petitioner No.2 Surinder Singh and has also assured that no harm will be caused to her. Learned counsel for respondent No.4 has, however, expressed that respondent No.4 wishes to meet her daughter i.e. petitioner No.1-Manroj Kaur.

Having heard the learned counsel for the petitioners and without commenting as regards the veracity of the averments made in the petition and also as regards the validity of alleged relationship of the petitioners, the petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Moga to look into the matter and to dispose off the representation dated 20.12.2021 (Annexure P-3) in accordance with law. In case, it is found that there is a genuine threat to the lives and liberty of the petitioners, then necessary steps warranted under law be taken thereupon at the earliest so as to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioners. 6.

A copy of this order alongwith copy of the representation dated 20.12.2021 (Annexure P-3) be sent to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, Moga so as to enable him to do the needful expeditiously. 7.

It is, however, clarified that the aforesaid order shall not be taken to be any expression as regards the validity of live-in relationship of the petitioners and shall not confer any immunity upon the petitioners, in case it is found that they have committed any wrong.

As far as the request of respondent No.4 for meeting her daugher is concerned, the said request would not strictly fall within the scope of the

( 3 ) present petition. The respondent No.4 would be at liberty to have recourse to any other remedy as may be available to her.
