Petitioners seek protection of their life and liberty as they apprehend danger at the hands of respondents No. 4 to 9 and other relatives because they have solemnised marriage on 24.12.2021 against the wishes of said respondents.
Learned counsel for the petitioners identifies the petitioners on the basis of documents attached. It is contended that the petitioners are major, their dates of birth being 12.10.1998 and 13.11.1999, respectively. Aadhar cards and matriculation certificates of both the petitioners are appended with the petition as Annexures P1 and P2, respectively. Marriage certificate and photographs of marriage are on record as Annexures P-3 and P4. It is submitted that there is no impediment to the marriage of the petitioners. Petitioners, it is stated, submitted representation dated 24.12.2021 (Annexure P5) to respondent No. 3 i.e., the Station House Officer, Police Station Jagraon, for redressal of their grievance but no action has been taken thereon. Mr. Amit Mehta, Sr. DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3. Advance copy of the petition stands served. It is brought to my notice that petitioners are residents of Jagraon. Keeping in view the above, it is directed that this petition itself be treated to be a representation and without commenting upon the age of the petitioners or validity of their marriage or validity and genuineness of the certificates/documents appended with the petition, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jagraon is directed to look into the matter and take appropriate action if any/as may be required, keeping in view the threat perception to the petitioners. Petition is disposed of accordingly.
