This petition has been filed inter alia for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondent No.2 to conduct an inquiry into alleged custodial torture of petitioner, who is undergoing sentence in FIR No.69, dated 05.03.2008, lodged for offences under Sections 302, 427, 34, 120-B, IPC, at Police Station Sadar Jalandhar, district Jalandhar. 2.

In response to notice issued by this Court, status report by way of affidavit of Superintendent, Central Jail, Patiala, has been filed, wherein it has been submitted that petitioner was released on parole for a period of four weeks on 24.11.2022. Petitioner had to surrender on 23.12.2022, but he absconded. An FIR No.162, dated 10.06.2023, has been lodged against him under Sections 08 and 09 of the Punjab Good Conduct Prisoners Temporary Release, Act, 1962, at Police Station Rama Mandi, District Jalandhar, Annexure T/R-1. As petitioner has absconded, this Court is not inclined to exercise extra-ordinary writ jurisdiction to examine averments made by him in the writ petition.
