The petitioner through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is seeking direction to respondent No. 2 to re-new his passport.

The petitioner was issued passport on 21.05.2012 which expired on 20.05.2022. The petitioner vide application dated 24.05.2022 applied for re-issuance of passport. The petitioner was involved in FIR No. 06 dated 12.01.2013, under Sections 498-A, 406 and 420B of IPC, registered at Police Station, Majitha, District Amritsar. The petitioner was acquitted vide judgment dated 16.03.2020 passed by JMIC, Amritsar. The petitioner is not involved in any other case.

Learned State counsel, who on advance notice is present in Court, does not dispute the aforesaid factual position. 4.

Counsel for Union of India, who on advance notice is present in Court, states that petitioner may be directed to appear before the passport authority who would pass an appropriate order within six weeks from the date of appearance of the petitioner.

Learned counsel for the petitioner agrees to the aforesaid arrangement.

The petitioner is directed to appear before the passport authority on 06.11.2023 alongwith requisite documents. On doing so, the passport authority would pass an appropriate order, in accordance with law, within six weeks from 06.11.2023.

The petition stands disposed of.
