The petitioners through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India are seeking direction to respondent No.2 to release them pensionary benefits on account of death of Jarnail Singh, Head Constable.

The petitioners are claiming that they fall within definition of family members, thus, they are entitled to pensionary and other terminal benefits arising on account of death of Jarnail Singh who was working with Punjab Police as Head Constable and passed away on 16.11.2023.

There is dispute between Charanjit Kaur (petitioner No.1) and Manpreet @ Rupi because both are claiming to be legally wedded wives of Jarnail Singh.

Mr. Aman Dhir, DAG, Punjab, who on advance notice is present in Court, submits that the competent authority has issued notice to the petitioners as well as Manpreet @ Rupi and they have been asked to submit their claim. As soon as both the parties submit their documents, the competent authority would decide their claim in accordance with law. 5.

In the wake of statement of Mr. Dhir, the present petition stands disposed of.
