This petition has been filed by way of Public Interest Litigation alleging embezzlement/corruption amounting to thousand crores of rupees in the Sales Tax and Excise Department in the State of Punjab. It is alleged that the petitioner has filed several complaints alongwith thousand pages of documentary evidence before the authorities and though some action has been taken towards recovery, the matter is pending before them since long. It is pointed out that recently in May42019, the office of the Chief Minister of the State of Punjab requested the petitioner to file an affidavit in support of his allegations, pursuant to which the petitioner has done so. It is alleged that since then no further action/steps have been taken by the authorities till date.

Having perused the petition it is observed that the allegations made by the petitioner relate to the years 2009 to 2012. It is also evident that now the Chief Minister's office has itself taken notice of the matter and after obtaining an affidavit from the petitioner, it is dealing with the same. [2] In such circumstances, as this Court does not propose to initiate or take up parallel proceedings in the matter, where Government itself is dealing with the issue, the petition filed by the petitioner is disposed of with the observations that the authorities concerned having taken cognizance of the issues raised by the petitioner shall take all steps possible to take it to a logical conclusion.

With the aforesaid observations, the petition stands disposed of.
