For the sake of convenience, the facts are being taken up from CWP-PIL-18569-2018.

These writ petitions have been filed seeking directions to the respondents i.e. Union of India, States of Punjab and Haryana as well as UT Chandigarh to decide the representations dated 23.3.2018 (Annexure P-1) and dated 21.5.2018 (Annexure P-2) to curb the ongoing menace and pollution caused by the excessive use of plastic. During the pendency of these writ petitions, affidavits have been filed by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change-respondent No.1; written statement was filed by the Under Secretary to Government of Haryana on behalf of respondent No.2; a short reply of the Additional Secretary to Government of Punjab-respondent No.3, dated 20.11.2018; the written statement of the Director, Department of Environment Chandigarh Administration on behalf of respondent No.4 (in CWP-PIL-18569-2018); and replies filed on behalf of the respondents (in CWP-PIL-5-2019) have also been filed.

CWP-18569-2018 & CWP-PIL-5-2019 3 No counter affidavit(s) has been filed by the petitioner(s) to the steps taken by all the respondents with respect to managing the excessive use of plastic. The respondents have placed on record the details of the steps taken by them.

Since five years have been gone by and these writ petitions are pending.

At this stage, both the writ petitions stand disposed of by giving liberty to the petitioner(s) to file fresh petition(s) in case they are aware of any better method of managing the use of plastic. Photocopy of this order be placed in the connected case file.
