**** SUKHVINDER KAUR , J. (Oral) Prayer in the instant petition filed under Articles 226 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of directions to respondents Nos.2 & 3 to provide protection of life and liberty to the petitioners, who are living in live-in relationship, against the wishes of private respondents No.4 to 8. 2.
Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that petitioner No.1 - Sunil, aged 18 years, who is not of marriageable age and petitioner No.2 - Siya Sahota, aged 19 years, are living in live-in-relationship against the wishes of their family members, arrayed as respondents No.4 to 8. It has further been submitted that private respondents are threatening to interfere in the life of the petitioners. Hence, they are seeking protection in that regard and have approached this Court by way of filing the instant petition.

The learned counsel for the petitioners has also submitted that a marriage is not a must for providing security to a couple in a 'live-in relationship' because protection qua life and liberty is sacrosanct and SANGEETA 2025.09.12 16:26 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

He has also placed reliance upon orders passed by the co-ordinate Bench of this Court in 'Sarabjeet Kaur and another versus State of Punjab and others' in CRWP-102-2022 decided on 07.01.2022 and 'Goutam Kumar and another versus State of Punjab and others' in CRWP-8088-2021 decided on 26.08.2021. 4.

On the asking of Court, Ms. Gagandeep Kaur, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of respondents No.1 to 3. 6.
At this stage, without expressing any opinion regarding age and nature of relationship between the petitioners, the petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent No.2 to look into the representation dated 09.09.2025 (Annexure P-5) at the earliest and take necessary steps, if any required, in accordance with law, to ensure that the life and liberty of the petitioners is not jeopardized at the hands of the private respondents. However, this direction will have no effect on any civil or criminal action, which could be initiated in the matter in accordance with law.
