Prayer in the instant petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of directions to respondents No.2 and 3 to provide protection of life and liberty to the petitioners, who have married against the wishes of respondents No.4 and 5. In compliance of order dated 28.12.2022, learned State counsel has filed the status report by way of affidavit of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Circle Samana District Patiala, which is taken on record subject to all just exceptions.

Learned State counsel while inviting the attention of this Court to the reply filed submits that the FIR No.210 dated 18.12.2022 under Section 346 IPC at Police Station City Samana District Patiala stands registered against petitioner No.2 at the instance of father of petitioner No.1. Learned State counsel has, however, not been able to controvert that petitioner No.1 was 18 years and 05 months old at the time of her marriage with petitioner No.2. In view of the above, the petition is disposed off with a direction to respondent No.2-Sr. Superintendent of Police, Patiala to look into the representation dated 24.12.2022 (Annexure P-4) and take necessary steps, if SONIA BURA 2023.01.04 14:20 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document
