The petitioner through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is seeking direction to respondent No. 2 to re-issue him passport.

The petitioner was issued passport on 28.10.2013 which expired on 27.10.2023. The petitioner applied for re-issuance of passport in September'2022. An FIR No. 17 dated 30.01.2014, under Sections 342, 376, 506 of IPC came to be registered against the petitioner at Police Station Kurali, District Mohali. The petitioner during investigation was found innocent. The petitioner vide letter dated 20.11.2023 has clarified his position with respect to the afore-stated FIR. Counsel for the petitioner inter alia contends that case of the petitioner is squarely covered by judgment of this Court in Mohan Lal @ Mohna vs. Union of India and others 2023 SCC Online P&H 1391  Ms. Shreyansi Verma, Central Government Counsel for Union of India asserts that application of the petitioner would be decided within six weeks from today.
