Through the instant petition, under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, the petitioners have sought issuance of directions upon respondents No.2 and 3, to protect the lives and personal liberty of the petitioners and also directing respondent Nos. 4 and 5 i.e. Father-in-law & Mother-in-law and other relatives of petitioner No.1 not to interfere in the personal lives and liberty to the petitioners. 2.
The learned counsel for the petitioners contends that both the petitioners are major. He further contends that petitioner No.1 is widow having two minor daughters. The marriage certificate of the petitioners is available on record as Annexures P-4. The petitioners have also submitted a representation dated 21.12.2023 (Annexure P-6) to the respondent no.2. 3.

On the asking of the Court, Ms. Navreet Kaur Barnala, A.A.G., Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the official respondent(s). 5.
On the query put by the Court regarding the safety and security of the minor daughters of petitioner No.1, learned counsel for the petitioners, on instructions from petitioner No.2, ensures that he will deposit Rs.2 lakh (one lakh each) in the account of each girl by way of Fixed Deposit in a Nationalized Bank and further he is ready to transfer two acres (one acre each) of land of his share in the name of both the daughters of petitioner No.1.

In view of the above, without going into the merits of the case, the instant petition is disposed of with a direction to respondent no.2-Sr. Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur, to decide the representation (Annexure P-6) of the petitioners and grant them protection, if any threat to their lives and liberty is perceived. Respondent No.2 - Sr. Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarupur is further directed to ensure that the statement made by petitioner No.2 before this Court through his counsel, is complied forthwith. 7.
However, it is clarified that this order shall not be taken to grant immunity to the petitioners from legal action for violation of law, if any, committed by them. This order shall not be understood to have expressed any opinion whatsoever by this Court on the validity of the marriage of the petitioners.
