(Oral) The present criminal writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India read with Section 482 CrPC has been preferred by the petitioners seeking writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondent Nos.2 and 3 to provide police protection to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of private respondents.

It is, inter alia, contended by learned counsel for the petitioners that the petitioners apprehending danger to their life and liberty at the hands of private respondent Nos.4 to 8 had moved a representation to the Police dated 30.12.2023 (Annexure P-5), but till date no action thereon has been taken. He submits that for the purpose of this petition, the petitioners will be satisfied if appropriate directions are given to respondent No.2-Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar (Mohali) to consider and dispose of the representation dated 30.12.2023 (Annexure P-5) in accordance with law in an expeditious manner. 3.

After hearing the respective submissions and considering the limited prayer made by learned counsel for the petitioners, without commenting on the merits thereof, the present petition is disposed of with direction to respondent No.2 to consider and dispose of the representation dated 30.12.2023 (Annexure P-5) in accordance with law in an expeditious manner. The decision so taken be intimated to the petitioners as well.
