Counsel for the State submits that inquires have been caused and a report has been prepared assessing damages and a compensation of Rs.39,000/- is to be paid to the petitioner.

The District Magistrate, Paschim Medinipur has addressed a letter dated 19th July, 2023 to the Principal Secretary for approval of payment of compensation under the Disaster Management Act and the same is taken on record. Certain photographs have also been produced indicating substantial damage to the petitioner's house. 3.

In view of the above, this Court directs the Principal Secretary of the State to take expeditious decision in the matter of payment of compensation to the writ petitioner and communicate the same to the District Magistrate, Paschim Medinipur within a period of fifteen days from date.

The petitioner shall be entitled to seek enhancement of compensation.

With the aforesaid directions, the contempt application is disposed of.

There shall be no order as to costs.
