A status report which is fairly useless has been filed by the State. Let the same be kept with the records. 2.

The petitioners say that they are in custody for 428 days. Even charge has not been framed. There are 10 charge sheet named witnesses. They pray for bail.

Learned State Advocate draws our attention to the material on record. Huge quantity of high quality counter-feit Indian currency notes were recovered from the petitioners. The bail prayer of a co-accused person was rejected on merits by a Coordinate Bench in CR (DB) 15 of 2025 on February 19, 2025. 4.

Learned State Advocate also tells us that three other accused persons are absconding. Proclamation has been issued against them. That is why the slight delay in progress of the trial. 5.

Offences involving fake Indian currency notes are serious in nature. They have adverse implications for the national economy as a whole. Further, the prosecution does not appear to be

responsible for the delay. Other accused persons are absconding which has caused the delay in the trial.

It is quite likely that if enlarged on bail, the petitioners will also disappear. Hence, we are not inclined to enlarge the petitioners on bail, at this stage.

CRM (DB) 207 of 2025 is, thus, dismissed.

However, considering that the petitioners are in custody for 428 days, we direct the learned Trial Court to expedite the trial to the fullest extent possible and conclude the same as against these petitioners, if necessary, by splitting up the records and trial in accordance with law.
