Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the decision to appoint temporary homeguards by the order dated 30th December, 2022 (page 29) is bad in law and runs contrary to the statutory provisions, namely, West Bengal Homeguards (Enrollment) Rules, 2018 published in West Bengal Police Gazette on 21st June, 2019.

It is seen that the order dated 30th December, 2022 makes it clear that appointments were made for the period from 01.01.2023 to 30.06.2023. There is no iota of material before us to show that such appointments were continued beyond 30th June,

2023. The issue to be considered in this petition for the present is academic in nature.

We find no reason to keep this PIL pending. The writ petition / PIL is disposed of by reserving liberty to the petitioner to raise the grounds in appropriate proceedings, if occasion arises.
