Chhanda Denre, seeking appropriate direction to the respondent/state for compensation due to the unfortunate death of his wife, who died owing to snake-bite on 1210-2018 at Medical Collage Hospital, Kolkata. It is the case of the petitioner, wherein the petitioner states that he had submitted a claim to the state authorities seeking compensation under the scheme of the Government of West Bengal, Department of Reliefs, vide No. 1043-DMCD-11011(12)/I/E394252/2021 dated 2-7-2021. Under the scheme the Government of West Bengal has issued a circular for welfare measure which provides that the District Magistrate/District Authority/Municipal Commissioner in case of
KMC area, will sanction and administer an exgratia amount of Rs. 1.00 Lakh (Rupees One Lakh Only) in each death case to the next-ofkin(s) of the deceased who died due to snakebite on being satisfied about the genuineness of the cases of death after obtaining necessary documents against it from the concerned authority. The petitioner further contended that the tragic death of his wife was due to circumstances beyond their control and the family was entitled to get the relief under the above-mentioned government scheme.
Learned counsel for the respondent/State appears and states that according to the scheme vide notification dated 02-07-2021, the government has provided exgratia amount of Rs. 1.00 Lakh (Rupees One Lakh Only) has already been paid to the petitioner as compensation, as per the guidelines of the above mentioned scheme.
In view of the statement made by the learned counsel for the respondent/State and the said fact has been verified by the petitioner that the amount has been duly received by the petitioner. Consequently, the petitioner did not wish to press the present writ petition.
After careful consideration of the submissions made by both the parties and the documents placed on record, this Court is of the opinion that as the petitioner is duly satisfied by the grant of an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 1.00 Lakh (Rupees One Lakh Only) as compensation, the grievance of the petitioner stands redressed.
With the above observations, the present writ petition is disposed of.
