None appears on behalf of the respondents in spite of service.

The petitioner is the son of an employee of the Panchayat who died-in-harness on 10th April, 2005. He made an application for being appointed on compassionate ground.

It appears from the documents annexed to the writ petition that the name of the petitioner has already been recommended by the Commissioner of Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of West Bengal to the Joint Secretary, Department of Panchayat and Rural Development against the serial No. 787 dated 31st October, 2012.

The petitioner submits that after his name was proposed for appointment on compassionate ground in

October 2012, no communication has been made to the petitioner regarding the further steps taken in the matter for providing appointment to him.

Several representations have been filed by the petitioner before the concerned authority but none of them have been answered by the respondents.

As it appears that the name of the petitioner was already recommended for appointment way back in October 2012, it is incumbent that the respondent authorities intimate the petitioner the current status of his application.

The employee died in the year 2005. The authority ought to take a decision in the matter on an urgent basis as the same relates to compassionate appointment which is provided to tide over the immediate financial crisis faced by the family on the death of the bread earner.

The representation of the petitioner remains unanswered.

Accordingly, the instant writ petition is disposed of by directing the Joint Secretary, Department of Panchayat and Rural Development to intimate the petitioner the present status of his application for appointment on compassionate ground at the earliest, but positively within a period of six weeks from the date of communication of a copy of this order.

The petitioner is directed to forward a copy of the proposal for appointment in his favour dated 31st October, 2012 to the aforesaid respondent at the time of communicating the order of this Court.

The writ petition stands disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order be supplied to the parties, if applied for, as early as possible.
