1. The petitioners' prayer for curtailment of portion of the permitted route between "Tarakeshwar and Serampore Court" is now pending for consideration before the respondent/Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Hooghly. The same is dated December 23, 2024.

2. Mr. Samanta, learned advocate appearing for the petitioner, seeks that a direction be made upon the State respondent for immediate consideration and decision as regards the prayer of the writ petitioners by dint of representation dated December 23, 2024.

3. Mr. Deb Roy, learned AGP appearing for the State, however, submits that the statutory permissible limit of 24 kilometres would be the criteria, while considering the prayer of the petitioners as above, by the State respondent.

4. Heard submissions and perused the records. It appears that in terms of Section 80(3) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, there are certain criteria specified by curtailment/extension of the permitted route.

5. Let the writ petition be disposed of by directing the respondent nos.2/Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Hooghly, to consider and decide as regards the petitioners' prayer vide his letter dated December 23, 2024 in terms of the statutory provision and law settled in this regard, after affording reasonable opportunity of hearing to the writ petitioners. Let the said representation of the petitioners be disposed of by a reasoned order, within a period of six weeks from the date of communication or copy of this order.

6. With the aforesaid observations, the instant writ petition being WPA 2062 of 2025 is disposed of. Connected application(s), if any, also stand/s disposed of.

7. Urgent Photostat certified copy of this order may be supplied to the parties upon all formalities, if applied for.
