The petitioner secured a rank of 707 in the merit list prepared for admission in M.Sc. degree in Geography by Calcutta University for the academic session 2023-2024.

The petitioner was not allotted any seat during the counselling based on her rank in the merit list. By filing this writ petition, the petitioner contends that if two seats at Sarsuna College, Kolkata are converted into General Category seats from Economically Weaker Sections category, she would secure a seat in the said college.

Mr. Chatterjee, learned advocate appearing for respondent no.1 submits that conversion of a seat from Economically Weaker Sections category to any

other category is to be undertaken by the department of Backward Classes and Welfare Department after taking into consideration various factors. He further submits that even if the seats are converted into General Category, the petitioner will not secure her admission at the relevant college in exclusion to the candidates whose position in the merit list is above her and the counselling process has already been completed.

I find substance in the submission advanced by Mr. Chatterjee.

Accordingly, WPA 2342 of 2024 is dismissed.
