The petitioner has prayed for remission of sentence. He has been convicted under Section 302 of the IPC, and his conviction has been upheld all the way up to the Supreme Court. The petitioner has been sentenced for life.

The petitioner's last application for remission was considered and rejected by the State Sentence Review Board in its 65th meeting held on 14th July 2021.

This court is of the view that at least a year should lapse before the authorities may be directed to re-consider the petitioner's application.

In that view of the matter, if the petitioner makes an application after July 2022 the State Sentence Review Board may consider the same in accordance with applicable rules and shall pass a reasoned order.

With the aforesaid observations, the writ petition is disposed of.

There shall be no order as to costs.

All parties shall act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.
