Rahaman ...for the petitioner Mrs. Gopa Roy ....for the WBSEDCL The grievance of the petitioner is directed against the refusal of the respondent authorities to provide a new electricity connection at the premises of the petitioner. The WBSEDCL is represented and submits that they are ready and willing to provide a new electricity connection but the private respondents have raised an objection and caused obstruction to the representatives of the WBSEDCL.

In view of the fact that the petitioner is seeking an essential service I direct the Officer-in-Charge, Chanditala Police Station, Hooghly, being the respondent no. 3, to provide police assistance to the respondent/Distribution company. The costs of such police assistance would be borne by the petitioner.

The petitioner is also directed to comply with all the necessary formalities including making of payment of all statutory costs for obtaining the aforesaid connection. It is expected that the entire exercise would be completed within a period of six weeks from date.

With the aforesaid directions, WPA No. 3343 of 2021 is disposed of.

There shall, however, be no order as to costs. (Ravi Krishan Kapur,J)
