The petitioner claims that the District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has kept his prayer for renewal of gun licence pending since the COVID pandemic. The petitioner relies on the licence granted earlier and submits that such gun was used for protection of livestock, in the course of cattle farming.

The learned advocate for the State has filed a report, from which it appears the licence issued to the petitioner was fake and a complaint was lodged before the Officer-in-Charge, Minakhan Police Station by the Additional District Magistrate (General), North 24 Parganas, in this regard. It appears from the report that an employee of the office was involved in issuing fake licences by forging the signature of the officers. 4.

The petitioner will be informed about the reason for non-renewal of his licence by a reasoned order within a period of two months from date, from the office of the District Magistrate.

This Court cannot be oblivious to the seriousness of the matter and also expects that proper steps shall be taken by the District Magistrate, including investigation by the police authorities.

Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of. 7.

However, there will be no order as to costs.

Parties are to act on the basis of the server copy of this order.
