None appears on behalf of the respondents/Allahabad Bank (now known as Indian Bank).

I have heard counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioners and perused the petition.

The prayer of the petitioners is an innocuous one seeking the true statement of accounts in respect of Saving Bank Account No.854 in the name of Sk. Abdul Mohit (since deceased), the father of the petitioner nos.1 to 7 for the period starting from 27.9.1996 to February 2003 and from March 2, 2007 to August 9, 2009.

In my view, it is the duty of the bank to provide the details to the customer or the heirs of the customers whenever sought for. The bank has also chosen not to appear before this Court and accordingly, I direct the bank to act in terms of prayer (b) of the writ petition within a period of three weeks from date.

The petitioners are directed to intimate the bank officials of the order passed along with a copy of the writ petition at the earliest.

With these observations, WPA 2735 of 2010 is disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
