The prayer of the petitioner seeking extension of jurisdictional limit for registering marriages under the Bengal Mohammedan Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1876 and the Muslim Marriage Registration Rules, 1929 as amended from time to time is pending consideration.

The petitioner submits that there isn't enough Muslim marriages being registered within the jurisdictional limit that has been allotted in his favour. He prays for extension of limit for registration of the marriages.

Learned advocate representing the State respondent submits that there is no provision in law

which permits extension of the jurisdictional limit for registering Muslim marriages.

As it appears that the prayer of the petitioner is pending consideration, accordingly, without going into the merit of the claim of the petitioner, the instant writ petition is disposed of by directing the Secretary, Judicial Department to take a decision on the prayer of the petitioner in accordance with law at the earliest, but, positively within a period of eight weeks from the date of communication of this order.

The aforesaid authority shall pass a reasoned order and communicate the same to the petitioner immediately thereafter.

Learned advocate for the petitioner is directed to forward all documents in support of his prayer to the aforesaid respondent at the time of communicating the order of this Court.

The writ petition stands disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties as early as possible.
