The grievance of the petitioner is that, despite the petitioner having applied for a new service connection as long back as in the year 2018, the Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC Limited) has been sitting tight over the matter. However, learned counsel appearing for the CESC Limited strongly opposes such contention and submits that on August 24, 2018 itself, the application of the petitioner for a new service connection had been refused on the ground that several service connections cannot be given at the same premises. However, in her usual fairness, learned counsel for the CESC Limited submits that, subject to compliance of all formalities by the petitioner, the CESC Limited has no objection in principle to give a new electric meter to the petitioner upon the petitioner duly applying for the same.

In such view of the matter, WPA 5358 of 2022 is disposed of by granting liberty to the petitioner to take out an application for a new electric meter at the premises-in-question. If so applied, the CESC Limited shall decide the same and in the event of the CESC Limited coming to the conclusion that the installation of such meter is feasible, the CESC Limited shall give such electric connection to the petitioner at the existing meter board position, subject to compliance of all formalities by the petitioner in that regard.

There will be no order as to costs.

Urgent photostat certified copies of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
