The only prayer of the writ petitioner who is the daughter of a deceased employee of the concerned District Library is that the application made by the petitioner to the District Library Officer, Birbhum in 2018 for family pension be expedited.

Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that the said application was forwarded by the Director of Library Services, West Bengal to the District Library Officer, Birbhum in 2018 and thereafter was forwarded by the District Library Officer, Birbhum to the Block Development Officer, Khoyrasole Development Block, Birbhum in 2019. The concerned Block Development Officer issued a certificate on 2nd July, 2019 certifying the monthly family pension income of the petitioner. Counsel also submits that no steps have been taken thereafter by the concerned authorities. It may be noted that the petitioner's father died in 2012.

The petitioner is the widowed daughter of the said deceased employee.

Since almost ten years have passed after the death of the petitioner's father, the Director, Directorate of Library Services, Government of West Bengal being respondent no.2 is directed to dispose of the application of the petitioner for family pension within a period of four weeks from the date of communication of this order. A copy of the result of the application shall be forwarded to the petitioner without any further delay. W.P.A.5438 of 2022 is disposed of in terms of the above.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
